Solar Powered Schools, Health Clinics, and Government Buildings in the Developing World

Global Solace Inc. (GSI) is a Maryland USA based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to bring reliable and renewable sources of energy to the schools and health clinics of some two billion people living in energy poverty in the developing world.  Established in 2009, GSI aims to improve the lives of individuals and communities through the implementation of sustainable renewable energy systems plus internet connected computer networks, thereby increasing access to education, health, and social services.

Recent Activity: GSI successfully installed two more solar PV systems in the city of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico in February 2023.  Four previously installed systems survived and provided electricity after the recent hurricanes, and therefore the city requested two more.  We are currently fund raising toward a September 2023 installation date for the seventh system situated on another City Government Emergency Distribution Center facility.  The fund-raising goal is $40,000.

GSI is continually supporting our previous installations on schools and health clinics in Carcasse, Haiti and Usa River, Tanzania.

GSI completed a project with the US Department of State to design solar PV systems with battery storage for four US embassies in the South Pacific at Koror, Palau; Apia, Samoa; Majuro, Marshall Islands and Kolonia, Micronesia.  The Koror, Palau embassy is the first US embassy to be 100% electrical energy independent powered by solar PV.  Note that the article mentions the next three net zero embassies also designed by GSI.

In addition, GSI has provided on-site assistance to the University of Maryland “Engineers Without Borders” group with two installations in Ghana and visited Tanzania and designed 20 rural health care systems.
