Global Solace Inc (GSI) is a Maryland USA based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to bring reliable and renewable sources of energy to some of the 2 billion people living in energy poverty in the developing world. GSI aims to improve the lives of individuals and communities through the implementation of sustainable, renewable solar energy PV electric systems and computer networks with Internet access, therefore increasing access to education, health and social services. To achieve this vision, Global Solace works closely with identified communities to install renewable energy systems on schools, medical buildings, and community centers.
GSI has developed “standard” products for rural schools and health clinics consisting of solar electric systems, low power computer networks, Internet access, and appropriate educational or clinical software. Many religious or NGO organizations are currently supporting schools and/or clinics in areas of great need and GSI has the expertise to work with them to provide turnkey systems for these sites. We are partnering with other NGOs to provide long term support to our clinics and schools.
GSI also responds to RFPs for the design and implementation of solar renewable energy systems. In July 2013, GSI won a contract to perform site assessments, feasibility studies, and off-grid PV system designs for twenty rural health clinics in Tanzania. The final report and designs were delivered in December 2013 to the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine and GSI hopes to begin system installations in the fall of 2014. For more information on the project, contact GSI.
GSI has the expertise to install solar powered mini-grids in community settings where several buildings may need to be electrified. In many cases, the mini-grid will supplant or replace an existing fossil fuel generator which does not provide reliable electricity on a 24-7 basis and which has very high fuel costs.
